NOSE DOWN OVER THE NORTH ATLANTIC

Bad dreams and night sweats again. Bad flashbacks from '75. This image floated around my head all night... I can hear the stall warning in my head, "meeeeeeehheeheheeheehehe".

I was doing a preflight checklist walk around the plane and forgot I was smoking a cigar. A ground crew was still fueling the aircraft when the explosion occurred. Lucky as always, I managed to escape the mishap with moderately seared eye brows and a slightly singed ego. The grounds crewmen were OK after 3 days in the hospital and checks for $75,000 apiece from my insurance company.

A close call during the "Golden Age" (1981-94) of Thunderbird over Columbus, Ohio. (Thunderbird is what pilots play instead of chicken.)

Not one of my better days in the flight simulator.

Nose down over the Rocky Mountains

This is perhaps my worst nightmare. I think about this a lot.

In the early days of flight, landings like this were common. Great Granpappy Lawrence had his fair share of this kind of landing, trust me! August, 1922
